Working Class Hero. A grand John Lennon song. It's been covered by Green Day and others, but Larissa shared with me Euphoria Depression's and I was in love. John Lennon is hard to cover because John Lennon is amazing, and it's too easy to ruin what he's already put out at it's best. Not that Green Day destroyed it, but Marcio's carries Lennon to great emotional heights. It was intense and beautiful. John Lennon's can't be touched ever and in no means is Euphoria's better, but it's pretty damn good-Jacqueline. To listen to this cover visit www.myspace.com/euphoriasdepression.

JULY 2008: Song of the month

Posted by Admin

Will You Swear on your life that no one will cry at my funeral? I've sat down and said that over and over in my head. Will you swear on your life that no one will cry at my funeral? after I heard this song. It's not very deep, but at the same time it is just that. deep. I've sat down way before coming upon life is beautiful and thought about death. How people would be at my funeral, and there were times I thought I don't want anyone to cry. I don't want a funeral at all. I want a party. Instead of a funeral mourning my death, I want them to throw a party celebrating my life. One day I saw what I thought to be a very profound away message on my sister's IM screen name. The words captured me.

JULY 2008: Band of the Month

This month I have selected the Jonas Brothers as our band of the month. Some people may not consider them a true band or say other such things about them. But when you look at what they have accomplished you will be amazed. Releasing of their CD, acting in the movie Camp Rock, and gaining a fan base as wide as some performers who have been performing longer than they have been. With this, Jonas Brother, I salute you. Well Done. Hopefully there will be more of you in the future. – Larissa

JULY 2008: Show Review by Larissa Lio

Posted by Admin

Going to the show with my own set expectation I really didn’t know what to expect but something that I have not yet witnessed. This is truly what I got. The group of people at the show: rave kids, the vampires and all other all together for one show. At 8 Julien-k took the stage. Their performance was good, and that was all I felt. Just good. Soon The Birthday Massacre came on with a performance that would put you in aw. Chibi, the lead singer put on a show that was outstanding along with the rest of the band. But the moment had arrived, MSI. When MSI came on to stage the crowd, a sold out show crowd, all began to go crazy. Dancing jumping and all else they could be doing. They played old and new songs. Puppets and special singer, straight from the audience took the stage. A man came to the show with a Mexican wrestler mask, Urine, brought him on stage to sing, Lyn-z (bassist) took hold of the mask and wore it for the next song. At the end of the show the band stayed behind and a few people went for a meet. With this I would encourage you to go out to a MSI show when they come near you. Even if you don’t like them, go see them. Hang out at the bar you’ll still enjoy yourself. – Larissa

JULY 2008: Interview with Anthony Vincent

AA: Katy Perry asks: What is the last thing you put in your mouth?
AV: A cock
AA: I noticed a lot of what you produce seems to be rap or hip hop. Have you yourself ever considered putting out a rap album?
AV:To be honest. I have no idea. No. Not in the near future. It's just not my style. As a matter of fact I am not a rapper. I can't write rap lyrics. If it ever came down to it who knows. I'm always thinking of things to experiment with. Maybe. Maybe not. I am a very unpredictable person so who knows. But no I am not a rapper.

june 2008 issue- Cover of the month- falling down

Cover of the month
Falling Downby Scarlett Johansson
Original by Tom Waits

Scarlett Johansson set out to try singing like so many actresses, but the difference is she is pretty damn good. There has been a buzz about her album that consists of 10 Tom Wait covers, and one original written by Johansson herself. Her first single is a cover of Tom Wait's falling down, which we chose as you got it! The cover of the month. The track has backing vocals from David Bowie, and a song that was beautiful on it's own, but almost hauntingly beautiful with her vocals. The fans have had very mixed reviews. All from competely amazed that she can sing, to this is just another failed actress who sings horribly. I've found that most people who hate it, express that they feel the background music drowns her out, and that it doesn't feel like she's singing it, but talking to you. That she's just saying the words, and one person stated they felt like she was reading the lyrics to you off a lyrics sheet. That is what I loved about it. It was soft singing. It was like she was having a converstation with you, and her voice changed to beauty. It was like the spoken word/poems. It was unique, and I liked the music that almost "drowned" her out. It wasn't so drowned out that you couldn't understand what she was saying though, but it had force. Beautiful instruments with force, and a pretty voice singing Tom Waits. I'd just like to point out for those of you who feel it's more like talking, and less of "singing" whatever you think singing is, we should look into Tom Wait's voice and point out he almost "spoke" the words in a growl. It was genius when he did that, and it is genius when she "speaks" the words to falling down. She is singing in a low wonderful voice that doesn't have the range of Christina Aguilera, but how many times can Christina really hit the same note over and over again. Eventually high octaves get dull. Learn to appreciate the "unsual" voices, I mean fans of Tom did. So how is this so different. Everyone please listen to her sing and speak the words of Tom waits. Anywhere I lay my head is amazing. Tom waits according to her official myspace page, has heard the album and liked it. Listen here -Jacqueline

june 2008 issue- song of the month- love remains

Posted by Admin

Song of the Month
Love Remains The Same by Gavin Rossdale

Gavin Rossdale's Love remains the same. Simple. Beautiful. The normal story of things just didn't work out, but not really. The subject has been written for years. Break ups. Make ups. love. Relationships. But it's not what you sing about, or write about. It's how you write it. Lines such as a thousand times I've seen you standing, gravity like lunear landing. Make me want to run til I find you. Shut the world away from here. Drift to you you're all I hear. Everything we know fades to black. Half the time the world is ending. Now those are lines that make it different. Those are lines of a writer. Gavin Rossdale has been in two bands Bush and Institute, and has personally been my favorite singer/songwriter and guitarist since the age of 12. Bush Sixeteen Stone made a big impact on me, but I think it was the voice behind those songs, and the writer. I loved the band as a whole, but I admit I had a thing for Gavin Rossdale and I just don't mean a crush. In fact I mean something opposite of a crush. Not a physical love, or a groupieesque like for him. But I had the hots for his songwriting and the singing itself. He's one of the few men I'd wanted to sing like. So when I heard he had a solo album coming out June 3rd, I got really excited. Beyond Excited. I haven't had the chance to hear the rest of the album yet, but the first single brings back memories of when I was 12 and listening to Glyecerine. Glycerine is one of my favorite 'love songs' and I always felt it was the most beautiful thing I've heard. I had a massive reaction to it. I had the same reaction to Love Remains The Same as I did to Glycerine. It was taking me back to my first reaction to Bush. The difference though is I think Gavin as a Solo act is a hundred times better. Now that is a lot coming from someone whose first favorite band was indeed Bush. It's a lot coming from someone that had her first rockstar crush at 12 on their drummer Robin. Yes it wasn't Gavin. I didn't have a crush on him til years later when he married Gwen Stefani and then I realized he's the luckiest man on the planet to snatch her right up. Which makes me pray that Love Remains The Same wasn't written about a certain situation between the couple. Let's all say it's about a general couple and or an ex of Gavin's we all never heard of. Everyone should check out Love Remains the same-Jacqueline

june 2008 issue- artist of the month- Antiks

Posted by Admin

Artists of the month is hip hop/trip hop artist Antiks. Upon wondering to Vanessa Alexandra's website we stumbled upon her brother Antiks. She has recorded two songs with him called Pig, and Egotastic in which she wrote. She sang the vocals of course. However she's not the Artist of the month because that'd be easy to focus on her. She has an amazing voice. I know this. You should know this, and we love her, but the music behind those songs caught my attention. I immediately told my friend DJ Will you have to remix these songs for your next show and he heard them and said he'd love to. So I think Antiks Featuring Vanessa Alexandra makes for an amazing artist of the month. To hear more of his as they say mad skills visit www.myspace.com/antiks-Jacqueline

june 2008 issue- anywhere i lay my hand review

Posted by Admin

Anywhere I lay My Head
Scarlett Johansson's Anywhere I lay My Head. Some of the best written lyrics coming from a low, raspy, soulful and full of emotion Female voice. There are those who sing as one "should". Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Jessica Simpson. The perfect octaves. Then there are ones who sing because they've sang since the age of ten and dreamed of being a popstar all their childhood. The ones that want to make hits and probably have nothing real to say. They usually have decent voices, but they all blend in with their peers. Then there are those actresses that like to use their name to do another career. The ones that sing just because they can, and I am not talking about their voices. Then there is Scarlett Johansson who sings for tribute and isn't looking for recognition. She has that in acting. She's just a fan who had the opportunity to put out an album, and she used it to pay tribute to Mr. Waits. She co-wrote one original called Song For Jo. I read once that she said she would only do original material if she was inspired to. Now that means something. You get these actresses that jump on a bandwagon, and they just want to do it all. They want to take over the world. The ones that have their top hit albums, the ones that have their perfumes, and the ones that do their own clothing lines. The ones who think they are original, but the reality is each one of them could sing each other's songs live and no one would know the difference. Scarlett recruited David Bowie for backing vocals, and a few members of the yeah yeah yeahs. Her voice is stuck in my head. She brings life to these songs and it's not that they didn't have life before her. They did. They had the best life, and that is why they SHOULD NOT be covered, but Scarlett Johansson dared to remake untouchable songs. She did the impossible. She successfully sang Tom Waits without an angry following. I think she and ONLY she could do these songs justice. Song for Jo shows she is a songwriter. A born and talented song writer. She is not part of the "in crowd" trying to up their popularity. She just wanted to sing. To sing regardless of who liked it, or didn't. So she sang and some didn't like it, and some loved it. She has the heart of a musician that most musician's in the music industry do not have today. Her visions of Tom are best heard live. Let's all hope she gets inspired to do more. Listen here

AA:Cancer bats asks what is your favorite childhood moment:
KP:My favorite childhood moment? Oh gosh it is like which one do I pick. I think one of my favorite childhood moments that I can remember off hand, is just going to epcot center at Disney world for the first time. And trying out different foods from each country and as a kid thinking I was really in Japan and then literally crossing the border to France. This is awesome. The countries are so close. I had no idea they existed in one magical place. I would go eat a taco from mexico and then have a crepe from Paris. It was awesome.

Miss Worldby Neverending White Lights
Original by Hole

Hole’s original of Miss World is a strong song with angst and lots of emotion, when you calm down the song and add in even more emotion you get Neverending White Lights version of the song. When you listen to it you don’t even realize that it is a remake, you feel a connection with the way Daniel sings making you want to listen more. -Larissa

song of the month

With Me by Sum 41

With me was chosen because it's simply beautiful, and because it is NOT only on Sum 41's myspace, but Avril Lavigne's. Avril's husband is lead singer Derek Whibley, and the lyrics I am Nothing without you scream written for her. However I am not incredibly sure what the song is about and Avril could just be supporting her man and his band's latest video. I don't want this moment to ever end, and everything is nothing without you. I want you to know. With everything I won't let this go. These words are my heart and soul. I'll hold onto this. Won't let you go. I put my heart to show. Well I liked the "theory" that she put it on her space because it was written for her. If it wasn't about her then I could always start an inspired by rumor. What can I say. I am a hopeless romantic-Jacqueline

May 2008 artist of the month

Posted by Admin

Avril Lavigne had some poppy punk attitudes when she first started, to be honest I wasn't too keen on her debut album, simply because it wasn't "my style", but I couldn't deny that she wasn't like the other pop acts. She had talent in lyrics, and knew what an instrument was. I liked I'm with you, unwanted and losing grip, but I could do without skaterboi. There were moments I really liked complicated because everyone knew that person who hid behind a persona. Her message of just being yourself grew on me and got my respect. As the years went by she grew as an artist. When Under My Skin came out, well I got jealous. Her songwriting grew up big time. She was deeper and I related to her life and sound. I wanted to write those lyrics. I thought how could I be so envious of the girl who once ironically started a trend with her tie and sang skaterboi. It put a smile on my face to see her grow up, and write things any respectful poet could and would write. I was excited for her third album. I expected that magic from the second, but when I heard the first single I was disappointed. I thought "sell out" and I don't ever think that. It was a very harsh reaction I had to hearing girlfriend and seeing it's video, and then I bought the album. Her album was fun, and contagious and When You're Gone and Innocence sparked my hope in her again. They were beautiful and real, and I'd sit through a thousand girlfriends just to hear songs like that on repeat. The Best Damn thing grew on my little jaded heart, but not enough. Though despite the letdown of her pop princess dance act for the third, I know how brilliant Avril is. What makes me love her is that NO album will ever sound the same. She grows with each, and that is why you can be letdown. Musicians you love are supposed to write music for them first, then you, and then write it with your reactions. They always support you, but real music isn't without the fans honest reactions. If an artist went their whole career without disappointing at least one fan once, then they are doing something wrong. If an artist were to never be called a "sell out" then they are doing something wrong. They are writing ALL The same tunes. They are catering to one group only, and they aren't about variety and putting out their best work at the moment. Not their best work of all time, but their best work for what THEY were feeling at the time. I chose Avril for artist of the month because she is to me at least, the definition of a real honest artist-Jacqueline

Cancer bats show review May 2008

Cancer Bats April 22 2008
A fully Charged crowd plus hardcore live music can only add up to one thing, a show of all time. By the time Cancer Bats came on stage the audience was fully pumped thanks to the opening acts. Liam was an animal singing, using the stage to its full potential. At times going into the crowd and singing. The crowd gave back positively, singing along to songs like 100 grand canyon and hail destroyer. Next time Cancer Bats are in your town make sure to stop by and check them out! You wont be disappointed.! - Larissa

Show review neverending white lights May 2008

Neverending White lights April 19 2008
In a small venue located in Toronto Ontario, Rob Dickenson came on stage with his acoustic guitar and his songs in hand to perform to the awaiting audience patiently sitting in their seats excited for him to start. His performance was great the crowd reacted positively to him. The one part in the show that I liked that he did is he forgot some the lyrics to a song and instead of making up words like most artist do a gentleman in the audience gave him his CD jacket with the lyrics, from there he was able to finish the song. Dickenson was the only opening act, shortly after Neverending White Lights came one stage. The most interesting thing about their act was the stage, it was as if a mini park was planted, there were trees all around the stage feeling as if you were outside. Starting their show with Theme From The Blood and The Life Eternal finishing off playing a total of 16 songs off of their first and newest albums. During the set they had three guest artists Jimmy Gnecco who sang along with the songs, Dove Colored Sky, Of all the things You’ve Done Wrong, The Grace, and Our Final Hymn. Marco who sang with Age of Consent, and A Littlepiece and Rob Dickinson who sang along with the song Where we are. When the show came to an end everyone wanted more, and that is what they got, and an encore of two songs, Final Hymn and Always. I will always remember this show. - Larissa

Anthony Vincent produced the track and also provided the back vocals. The song brings, along with solid synth work, good lyrics depicting a man's desire for his dreamgirl. The song is structured with a laid-back rhythym along with a steady beat perfect for dancing or even mere relaxation. Taylor swift scored a hit with Tim Mcgraw. It's a song that rings true for me personally. Though I never listened to Tim with a boyfriend or a male companion I did with my sisters. The three girls that got me into country are my best friends. A song almost dedicated to the man seems perfect for the four of us.Taylors beautiful voice singing out to her lost friend when you think of Tim Mcgraw I hope you think of me. Those are lyrics that I think of when I think of those same best friends and sisters. I used to hate country, but learn to love it and let it grow on me because as I grew up so my sisters grew on me. The four of us used to fight worse than we do now. When we were kids we were monsters to each other, but our father always said friends come and go, but family will always be

The Killers haven't really been on our minds to be honest. As one would say not my cup of tea, but last year they put out a song called Tranquilize featuring Lou Reed. A certain Editor here however just discovered this song, and was blown away by it. The lyrics speak volumes and it hardly sounds like The Killers for the first few listens. Once you discover Brandon's voice amongst the great Lou you are charmed by it. You are mesmorized by it, and completely happy that he's singing lyrics that can go straight through your veins. The music video is haunting and beautiful. The Killers are our band of the month because of this wonderful tune.

Hedley For the Nights I can’t Remember
Starting off with a black tie event style performance on stage Jacob works well showing the sadness and beauty within the song. The colour scheme of the black white red add in more emotion. There is a Rebel without a cause Rumble Fish feeling within the scenes. Each shot a new feeling leading to the end where you are lifted from the sad feeling to a happier one.

CD Reviews Fairmont Wait and hope
A great party album, it will get you up and rocking as if you are at a concert. Each song fast and never making you bored, until the end where it relaxes you with songs as “At The End Of The Movie”, and “Andy Goldfish Dreams Of the Ocean”. If you are looking for a great album to listen to driving in the car during summer time this is the perfect album to pick up.

The Artist Life ”Living” ep
After receiving this album as a free download off of the bands myspace I expected great things from it after watching a live performance, this is exactly what I got. The album is filled with great emotions connecting you personally to the songs and their meanings. City Blocks the last track on the 8 track ep would have to be my favorite on the album, the only thing with this album that I wish was different is that they had more songs on it. Overall I would have to say that this album would be well worth the buy.

April 2008 issue Euphoria's Depression interview

Violets for Nikki asks: At what age did you write your first song? What famous musician that has died, would you like to meet?
Marcio:I wrote my first poem at the age of seven and not soon after I wrote my first song. I must have been eight or so and I wrote it on piano. I’ve always been sort of an old soul and never really related to any of the other kids my age so I spent most of my youth creating. As for what famous deceased musician I’d like to meet, I’d have to say Beethoven. How a near deaf person can write some of the greatest compositions in the history of music leaves me baffled. Like Beethoven, I also suffer from tinnitus and, although I do not have as severe a case as he, I know how easily it can drive one mad, especially when your passion is creating music.

1) Ty: The band, Framing Hanley asks you, Who is the most played artist on your ipod right now?

Ryan: sigur ros

2) Ty: You recently said, "The album as a whole is my favorite because it best describes what we went through and how a band can stay together through thick and thin" What has been the hardest obstacle Strata has faced so far?

Ryan: I'm sure its different for all of us, but i think it's safe to say the hardest obstacle we have faced so far would have been the process of writing the (new) album.

All questions answered by Nixon unless otherwised noted.

The band Politick's asks:

If you were stranded in a frozen wasteland would you rather have mittens or earmuffs? Why?
Mittens...because you could use that shit for earmuffs TOO.

2. We believe that almost everyone has a philosophy or saying in life. A beautiful life's moto. Jacqueline spawns some of her "greater" writings from such philosophies. Do you have any theories on life or philosophies that may have randomly inspired a song or two? Really, we write songs that everyone can relate with in some way or another. I don't wanna write things that people listen to and say "What the hell is he talking about?"...I'd much rather it be a song that someone can sit down, listen to, and say "Damn. I've been there before." So basically, I guess our philosophy would be to write whats real and what the listener knows about.

Collin Cable: I was born ready
So Lovely: Ok. Who are your favorite Artists? Top bands? What is in your CD case? Influences?
Collin Cable: Lately, it would probably be Sufjan Steven's "Illinois". I'm kind of late coming on to things, but this record is really epic. Then the usual favorites like Old 97's, Wilco, Ryan Adams. That's the genre from which I derive most of my sound, which is actually their sound and I stole it.

I got the chance to interview Model, Singer, and Suicide Girl Vanessa Alexandra. She talked about everything from Hal Sparks to the mystery of Tino.

1. You sing and model? which do you prefer and which career would you want more over the other if you ended up in doing one over the other?

definetely prefer singing over any and everything in my life.
Singing has been my passion since I was a kid. If it came down to the choice of being a "supermodel" happily married to an extremely gorgeous, wealthy person or being on the road 8 months of the year, singing every night to thousands of people I've never met, I'd choose the latter.
Singing and being around people who appreciate the music you make is one
of the best feelings in the world. Modeling is fun, but the cathartic release and personal expression you get from singing is unmatched by anything any other career could provide.

Song of the Month
A beautiful Lie 30 Seconds To Mars

The focus starting this month is trying to improve the way you live by improving the environment around you. Everyday the world is affected by global warming melting the ice caps, raising the water level and causing weird weather in countries. A Beautiful Lie by 30 Seconds to Mars is a song that, in the name alone, brings awareness to these problems happening around us. The song shows how humans will act as if nothing is happening that there is no problems so that they can continue living the way they do. The newly released music video for A Beautiful Lie, filmed on location, adds visual reference to the message in the song. Check out the video and the song at http://abeautifullie.org/

Schuyler Fisk

Schulyer Fisk is the daughter of Sissy Spacek and Jack Fisk. Schuyler followed in her mother's footsteps, but it's her music career that has caught our eyes and ears. She wrote and sang the song Paperweight with Josh Radin providing vocals for The Last Kiss Soundtrack. Her mother taught her the guitar at an early age. Paperweight is beautiful and brilliant. Hello a simple song about a breakup that isn't really bitter nor happy. Just realistic. It sounds like she puts out her heart onto a page, and even her soul. It's writers like this that are the "real music industry". Listen to Fisk at here

the Spice Girls have been making a dent in music history ever since their rise and fall in the 90s. 2007 was the start of their reunion tour, with all members of the group, taking off on December 7 2007 in Vancouver, Canada and ending February 26th 2008 in Toronto, Canada. This is why the Spice Girls are the artist of the month. After their long departure they were able to reunite to tour the world, still being role models to children everywhere showing how you can set aside your differences and work together to create something great. If you have yet to see them on the tour you should pick up a ticket for a city near you, you won’t regret it. -Larissa

Foxy Shazam: Introducing Foxy Shazam
Foxy Shazam, a soul, pop rock band reining from Cincinnati, United States have just released their album Introducing Foxy Shazam in January 2008. Violets For Nikki
Interview By:Jacqueline Milom

Vanessa Alexandra' asks: What is your worse personal performance you can remember?
Greg: ok 1998, in a bar in southern louisiana outside of Nicholls state university. They had never had a punk show there before and they shut us down for being too loud. and when they shut us down half the place started fighting. worst performance ever.
Chris: show in Tampa and we were expecting somewhere around 1000 people to show, because thats what our manager said would be there. As it turned out it was a small club with room for maybe 30 and the only people in the audience were our manager the sound guy and a drunk couple dancing to our music completely off tempo.

Song of the Month
Piece of Me by Britney Spears

It's full of attitude. Britney has been a fixture on Star Magazine for awhile now. Tabloid Princess. In Piece of Me she snarls at them. Lashes out and confronts her "fame" since her teenage years. Sure she didn't write the tune, but she obviously sat down with a writer and told them what was up. Lyrics such as I'm Mrs. Lifestyles of the rich and famous. You want a piece of me?I'm Mrs. 'Oh My God, That Britney's Shameless!'You want a piece of me? She also tells the media and fans what is up. Other fantastic lines are I'm Miss American Dream since I was 17. Don't matter if I step on the scene. Or sneak away to the Phillipines. They still goin' put pictures of my derriere in the magazine. You want a piece of me?

Artist of the Month
Matt Wachter

This is a very special Artist of the Month. Why? Because we usually do solo musicians as in singers/songwriters that aren't associated with bands. This month we chose new bassist Matt of AVA. We chose him because he is indeed an incredible artist. He has some of the greatest bass playing heard in awhile and he connects well with fans. Now the fan connection isn't a neccesity for being a "rockstar" but it sure is fun sometimes.Matt has faced a lot through his life. Playing in many bands and finally leaving 30stm after 6 years to settle down. He then joined AVA and just kept trucking on. he has only been in AVA for a ashort time yet he has made such a HUGE impact in the band and with the fans. it is as if he has been with the band since the beginning".-Larissa, staff writer.

Avenged Sevenfold's "Self Titled"
Review by Leah O

Avenged Sevenfold was released on October 30, 2007. The album is chock-full of attitude - a trait both common to and expected from the boys of Avenged both musically and publicly. In terms of sound, it is more similar to their last album, City of Evil, than to Waking the Fallen or Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. While Matt Shadows (their front-man, if you’ve been living under a rock) had described the album as something that both old fans (namely, those in support of the band’s earlier sound) and new fans would both love, it is certainly more akin (awk. find diff word) to their new sound. However, this album is by no means a creative failure. The songs Critical Acclaim and Almost Easy debuted on the band’s myspace page, as a playable track and a new music video respectively, prior to the album’s release, and for good reason. If you tend to get lyrics stuck in your head, one of these two tracks, in addition to “Scream” (another favorite), will likely take up permanent residence in your brain, welcome or not. The subsequent tracks follow --- in true Avenged fashion: with killer guitar riffs and sufficient raspy goodness provided by Matt Shadows’ trademark vocals. Another notable mention is the track “A Little Piece of Heaven.” The almost-8-minute-long track is chaotic by normal standards, deliciously blending elements of hard rock with the eloquence of orchestra. Diehard Avenged fans and new fans alike will find Critical Acclaim with this album.

Seven Envy
Interview By:Jacqueline Milom

Vanessa Alexandra asks:What's your worst personal performance you can remember?
SE: As a band, it’s gotta be Atlantis Music Conference earlier this year. We played with a bunch of hardcore metal bands and we stuck out pretty bad. Gil tore his Achilles tendon on the VERY first song (but finished the set like a trooper!), we had equipment trouble, a less than stellar turn-out...it was pretty ugly all around.
AA: What are you personal guilty pleasures on the road?
SE: Gil likes the fuzzy feeling that John Mayer gives him. I like to buy cheesy truck stop souvenirs. Ian eats twinkies at every opportunity. Bobby doesn’t feel guilty about shit.

Interview By:Jacqueline Milom

So here we are again Vanessa. This site has gone through many changes and many names. Just to let you know you were actually my first interview where someone didn't help me come up with questions. The first ALL by myself interview. I was nervous as hell. I knew you from chats before, but I had the opportunity to interview you as a model and Suicide Girl. I was promoting you. It felt very different to me. Well I slapped myself upside the head and sent you the questions. They were some of the best answers I've ever read. I had successfully came out of my first all by myself interview alive. So here goes round two. This time we're on our 5th and final name change, and we're interviewing you as a front woman for the band Gothic Lolita Orchestra.

Band of the Month

Angels and Airwaves

Angels and Airwaves was chosen as Band of the Month because not only is their music revolutionizing and inspiring, the members of the band all have a mission with this band and that mission is to change the music industry through lyrics, technology, and a unique sound. Vocalist Tom Delonge created AVA with a hope of revolutionizing music for the better. Tom and his other band members David (guitarist), Matt (bassist), and Atom (drummer) have blown music fans everywhere away with their powerful lyrics. Songs such as "The Adventure", "The Gift" and "The War" from their first hit album We Don't Need to Whisper have been heard in shows such as Gossip Girl, Two-A-Days, and even on Monday Night Football. They're new single "Everything's Magic" captures the idea that if you want something bad enough, you can make it happen. This single is from the upcoming sequel of We Don't Need to Whisper and the album is called I-Empire, which will be available in stores on November 6th, and on their official website on November 1st.

Foo Fighter's "Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace"
Review by Eric Binder

Time has taught us that bands start at the top and end up at the bottom. The 1997 release of "The Colour and the Shape" will always be the peak of Foo Fighters' career, but just when it appeared that things were going downhill with the subsequent sub-par releases of "There Is Nothing Left To Lose" and "One By One", they turned it up a notch with "In Your Honor." While still missing the character and charisma that "The Colour and the Shape" was super-saturated with, "In Your Honor" was a glimmer of hope that this band still had some magic left up its sleeve. That glimmer of hope became an incredible blinding light with their latest release, "Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace", which is easily their best effort in a decade.

Of the Month

Band of the Month

We chose The Sounds because this band is unique, upbeat, are from Sweden, and has a woman lead singer! Can't get any better than that! To top that off, their fun-to-sing-along-with lyrics make their songs enjoyable to blare while you drive around town. Our staff recommends the songs "Turn back the time", "Fire", and "Bombs Bombs Away".

Visit their myspace: here.

Artist of the Month

We chose Butch Walker because although his talent sky-rockets, his popularity among music fans does not. In reality, his music is more known than you might think! He's worked with musicians such as Avril Lavigne with her songs and cd's and look where she's at today! Butch is currently in a band called "The Lets Go Out Tonites" and has been touring a lot this year. He currently has demos up on his myspace page. Karen's favorite Butch Walker album is "Letters" and her favorite songs are "Don't Move", "Maybe it's just me" and "Mixtape" (which you may have heard if you watch the hit CW drama One Tree Hill).

Mandy Moore Review by Ross October 2007

CD Review

Featuring Mandy Moore's "Wildhope"

Review by Ross

"All good things...come to an end" could be a fitting closing to that long-since decayed era that spawned the bubblegum denizens of the late 90's. And as Mickey sprung forth his nubile Mouseketeers and agencies churned the "anti-bubblegums" in Avril Lavigneic spades we are left to wonder...where are they now? So as their self-destructive paths harken the reamergence of self-confessed "quite boring" Mandy Moore it seems only fitting she's renounced the teeny-bop sounds that gave her that ticket to self anihilation that the Lohan's and Spears' flogged oh-so-publicly to bring us what she claims is her true musical self. And what we are delivered is a refreshingly ecclectic mix of poigant chill out and (in Moore's own words) "folky-pop" that seems too honest to come from anyone who used to warble comparisons of love to candy. Here the firecely impowered Moore has splayed her soul to song, enfused by the help of her contempories (Lori McKenna, The Weepies and Rachael Yamagata to name a few) Mandy delivers nothing short of revelation, cracking open a heart that teams with lyrical brokeness. Self depreication snakes its way into most -- as does blame. Nothing That You Are (one of only few uptempo tracks on the record) assaults the listener with a pounding back beat and the spine of Moore's rebuke, grafted through out lyrics such as "I hope you burn in hell...or do i?" Though Moore is anything but forgiving. On the track of the same name she muses "Can't you just adore her?" to the pleedingly pleasant strings of an ever-current guitar undertone. Folk runs deep, as in the Patty Griffin-esque Most Of Me where cascading chords tumble into the self denile of an unsure woman taking her first tentative steps from heartache ("and why I'm opitmistic, cautiously"). Few Days Down and Lastest Mistake round up an undeniable smatter of self-depreciation with sunny-shiney piano chords and Ms. Moore's breathy vocals evoking the summertime in our minds. Catchiness comes in the form of single Extraordinary and All Good Things where the gentle percussion suffuses with the milky warmth of Moore's vocals, a lazy hum at times that skims a greater potential. Slumming in Paradise and Looking Forward... offer us tough beats and force foot-tappin' aplenty but its the albums title track and uber ballad "Gardenia" that offer the greater insights. Breakable vocals and bare backing strips away the digitalized crutch upon which so many current artists rely, showcasing an aching accapella and anthem to all those ever hurt. Though its melodies lend to songs being forgettable Moore has woven a (self-written) letter of womanhood, a true rolemodel whose genteel vocals deepen at times like the waves of music and obvious emotion shes coasted upon. The Britney's should take note: does your soul lie in synthesized techno beats? The perfect album to unwind to, whatever Wild Hope lacks in MTV appeal it regains in its relatable lyrics, soaring vocals and loungey simplicity. Moore encapsulates herself best: "and now I'm ready to be extraordinary" And in comparison to her once -- and current rivals, you most certainly are.

50 Cent Review by Leah October 2007

New Album Review

Featuring 50 Cent's "Curtis"

Review by Leah Olivotti

Maybe I’m still feeling spoiled by Fiddy’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ debut. Though it was released in 2003, the album was incredible—it was fresh, clever, and praise-worthy from start to finish. It would only make sense then to purchase his follow-up album, The Massacre, the day it was released. Following the first album, it had big shoes to fill, and even with its inadequacies, it still made for an album that was, overall, very gratifying. The anticipation leading up to the release of Curtis had me expecting something extraordinary. I was genuinely excited. The mega-hit “AYO Technology” contributed in part to the hype; it had significant radio and media exposure and seemed to forecast that, perhaps, there were even bigger things to come. Not to mention, the all too impressive list of artists 50 collaborated with on the album: Timbaland, Mary J Blige, Akon, Dr. Dre, Eminem, and of course, Justin Timberlake.

One word that could sum up the album? Unfortunate? Boring? This album didn’t deliver. Most of the songs were solid, but not good, especially for someone with 50’s talent. “AYO Technology” was the best song, even after being exposed to death by the media. The only other song worth of mention was “Peep Show” featuring Eminem. Two wrongs in this case somehow made a right.

Basically, until 50 steps up to the plate, my recommendation is to stay strictly Kanye.

Interview with Shiny Toy Gun's Jay Dawson By Ty October 2007

Posted by Admin

With Jeremy Dawson from the band, Shiny Toy Guns

Interview By: Ty

We start the interview off asking the last question of the previous interview, where we ask the interviewee to come up with a question to ask the next artist. Stefan Olsdal from Placebo asks, What have you got to contribute to music history that no other band has contributed?

Jeremy Dawson: An absolute unselfish and unweakenable desire to bring an equalty between an artist and a listener.

If I knew absolutely nothing about Shiny Toy Guns, how would you describe the group's music to me?

Jeremy Dawson: Future forward rock n' roll.

Are there any plans to release another single anytime soon?

Jeremy Dawson: Yeah, the next modern rock single is called Rainy Monday. It comes out October 23rd in the U.S.

You have been touring for a few years now. How do you keep yourself motivated to work that long. Does the band plan on taking a break anytime soon?

Jeremy Dawson: How we do it is, We've got sort of pickled in a way. As we started by ignoring everything. Like every road and every sign in the road. In other words we, without being on a record label. Made a demo, made a record, and went on tour. As if we had all those things. So the first two years of our touring we're done very independently and that's what we wanted to do. We did that for a very long time. This 2006/2007 tour has been an unrevealed umbrella of working a record, and working a distributed album. That's why our touring is so psychotically long. It's because we've already toured, now we're touring again. There's so many countries that we have to tour that the record is coming out in left and right. So as we fly around it's like every countries a new start over point. To go back again to play the same songs again for, Spain, Germany, Portugal. We make every territory a priority, if at all humanly possible. Instead of going home we're going to go to Germany, and Finland, and Sweden.. and tour and work those markets as if those markets were the only ones left. It looks like deep March (2008), maybe. We'll get a possible break from that.

Does it bother you at all if you read something that is negative about your music?

Jeremy Dawson: No, not really. If they're being dead honest and they really don't like something, they're going to say I don't like this and here is why.. The only thing that really bugs me is weird internet people that are just horrifically blatant. Like "You stupid motherfucker", "I will rape your ass", and "Blow up your bus", "I want you all to die in hell and jump off buildings". Just weird people that stay up all night and write things like that. That's the only stuff that bothers me because it's just weird. It could be a 50 year old man, or a 12 year old kid. But that's the stuff that bothers me. The physical threats of murder and pillaging on myspace and stuff.

If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?

Jeremy Dawson: The power to be invisible.

What is your favorite and least favorite song to play live?

Jeremy Dawson: It changes a lot. Right now I would say, "You are the one". I don't care if it's the single or whatever. It's always been just fun. As a band all four of us enjoy that. It's fun to play. It's fast. The last favorite song to play is just rocketship. It's only out in the U.K. It's really cheesy but kids like it. So, we have to play it.

If you could play in any band that ever existed, who would that band be?

Jeremy Dawson: MUSE

I was talking to some of your fans on one of your forums and most of them were asking about the Rainy Monday single. I understand there has been some confusion on this, could you clear it up for us?

Jeremy Dawson: Yes, well actually. I need to announce this publicly too. We weren't going to release the single in America, just in Europe. It's not going to be a single in Europe anymore. Le Disko will be, months from now. Rainy Monday is in the U.S. It's weird..

If the world were to end tomorrow, where would you want to be?

Jeremy Dawson: Oklahoma.

With "We Are Pilots" doing so well over the past few years. Any chance of hearing new music or even a new album in the next year or so?

Jeremy Dawson: Yeah. In fact, we have two more remixes we are doing right now. One is for Tiësto. The other is for a band from Dallas, by a band called The Hourly Radio. Then we'll be rejecting all other remix offers and starting writing songs again. If a song is remotely playable, we're going to introduce it live and learn it that way. I know what the label wants. But realistically, it's possible to have a new record by this time next year. Doubtful... but very possible. We'll definitely have the core six or seven new songs. There's a lot of new stuff almost done now. We just can't show it to anyone because it takes a lot of time to get it ready to play.

How do you feel about fans buying your music online? Do you prefer when they buy your actual CD?

Jeremy Dawson: Whatever they want. Whichever format is the easiest for them to use is totally cool.

What are some of the best fan interactions that you've ever had?

Jeremy Dawson: Usually it's a good conversation between us and fans. It's good hearing how we were able to or fortunate enough to apply the music to their life, and their problems, and whatever is going on with them. It's nice to know that we have helped them somehow. It's good to meet them and talk about that, then come back a little while later and see how it is going on at that time too.

Do you ever do any Shiny Toy Guns remixes when you are doing you're dj sets?

Jeremy Dawson: All the time.

What question should we ask the next artist we interview?

Jeremy Dawson: When's the last time you spent more time hanging out with people at shows, than getting prepared and performing?

Shiny Toy Guns are currently on the road for a U.S tour. Catch them in a city near you. Go to ShinyToyGuns.com or Myspace.com/ShinyToyGuns for tour dates and more information.

Concert Review. Warped tour part 2 By Karen October 2007

Posted by Admin

I wasn't thrilled about waking up early, but I was super thrilled to go to Warped Tour.

I arrived about 2 hours before gates opened, but only had to wait 45 minutes until my best friend came and brought me backstage. We hung out for about an hour just joking around and such, until we had to leave backstage. After that we checked out the band merch tents until gates opened. I saw Audrey Kitching walking around before everyone came and I saw a poster saying her and Hanna Beth were having a meet and greet later in the day (which I never went to).

As I Lay Dying The first band to perform was As I Lay Dying, and they played a good set. They played a lot of newer songs, which the crowd pretended to know the words of and instead of singing along, started a mosh circle near me. The 2nd band to play was Bayside, who began 15 minutes later than what was scheduled.

The Starting LineThey had a lot of response from their fans though and soon enough The Starting Line came onto the next stage. That crowd was crazy; I think I ended being in the second row by the time their set ended, which ended with a BANG! They played an oldie called "Best of Me" and almost every person was singing along.

I took a break from being by the stage until New Found Glory would come onto one of the stages. I went to the Monster bus to get something to drink and while I was standing there, someone very familiar walked passed with about 15 people following. It wasn't until that someone was about 20 feet away before I realized it was Hayley Williams from Paramore! I was kinda bummed that I missed my chance to talk with her. I totally admire her and would have loved to have met her. She seemed nice though; she smiled and waved goodbye to everyone as she walked backstage.

New Release review-August 2007 Issue

Posted by Admin

by Katy Cronkite

Great Northern’s brilliant debut, Trading Twilight for Daylight, is the perfect soundtrack for escaping the everyday chaos of our busy lives. The title itself gives the listener a taste of the album’s mood, which can make you feel as if you’re sitting under a tree on a sunny day, or at twilight as the band would prefer, with no one else within miles as you listen to it. The lead vocals of Solon Bixler and Rachel Stolte complement each other beautifully on every song. Tracks like “Just a Dream” display the dynamics of the band’s sound, beginning with a slow melody and a smooth bass line and picking up throughout the song. “Home” and “Telling Lies” are well-constructed, catchy songs that could easily be your new favorites. If you need to stay wide awake, you might want to skip over “City of Sleep.” And I don’t mean that it is boring. This sleepy-time anthem is just that good. “Low Is a Height” is another outstanding effort, complete with keys, bells, tambourine and excellent percussion to give the song its unique sound. Great Northern also have the ability to get you on your feet with a little pop that you’ll get with “The Middle” and “Into the Sun,” the latter of which you will find yourself clapping along to in no time. Trading Twilight for Daylight is a flawless, addicting debut record. Great Northern obviously have it together and know what they’re doing. If you’re not aware of this band’s existence yet, familiarize yourself now and check out Trading Twilight for Daylight.

Ty's warped tour adventure:
July 22nd 2007 during the morning, my friends and I made our way to Warped Tour in Orlando.. We got there around 10 AM to do catering backstage, First we set stuff up, then we got to work. It was kind of bad at first, because I stayed up all night.
We finished working about 10 AM and my back was killing me. I got a backstage pass and then I was free! Shortly after I watched Chiodos. Well actually.. My friends, Jenn and Sam, watched Chiodos from the stage and me and Ally got left behind and listened from back. They were good from what I could hear, though. They had a pretty good crowd, and it sounded like everyone was having a good time. After that we went to our spot on the stairs to hang out (later on I passed out there). Later on, I went to see an up and coming band called, The Dear and Departed from the stage. Give them a listen on their myspace. You just might like them. thedearanddeparted

Song of the Month-August 2007 issue

Posted by Admin

Song of the Month: In the Ghetto 2007 by Elvis and Lisa Marie Presley. Originally sung by Elvis Presley
Lisa Marie Presley has recorded this "duet" with her father to sell on Itunes for charity. The money goes to a second Presley's Place which is a transitional housing home. The Presley's Place will be in New Orleans where damage from Katrina is still left. Not only is it for charity, but it was made as a tribute to him for the 30th Anniversary of his death. She released it the 16th. She did a similar "duet" with him on Don't cry daddy, but it was never marketed or sold.

Why we love it: It's beautiful, and the lyrics are still brilliant today. Lisa's voice is stunning, and it is amazing to see her sing this particular song "with" her father. I almost cried when I saw it. I don't cry very often when I watch videos-Jacqueline Milom, Editor.

December comes early
Review by: Jacqueline Milom

Kelly Clarkson sends various messages in her new album My December. A collection on life, and love. The first album completely co-written by Miss Clarkson. The American Idol proves she's far from the show that got her started. She's a crediable and genuine artist. Never again almost resembles such songs as Idiot by Lisa Marie Presley, and You oughtta Know by Alanis Morrisette. The fiery castration of a former lover. In this tale Prince Charming cheats, and then weds the other woman. It takes you to what she's feeling. The anger in the song penatrates all your thoughts and emotions. In What I feel you'll hear her jaded heart spit out how lonely she'll end up. The so familar story of girl never meets her fairytale. The song is adorable, and honest, and any girl whose dated knows the feeling. Haunted however is one of the best songs on there. It is almost Amy lee-esque. It taunts you, and calls to you with such lyrics as louder, louder, the voices in my head, Whispers taunting, all the things you said. Faster the days go by and I am still stuck in this moment of wanting you. Time in a blink of an eye, you held my hand, you held me tight. Maybe is a very strong and bold statement about oneself, or perhaps herself. A statement about living and loving with her and all the maybes that go along with one day. She's not portraying the pop rocker in her December. She's portraying herself, her reality and her life. She's a singer/songwriter on a mission. This album is the best rockish album of 2007.

Politicks Interview - April 2007

Posted by Admin

1. In every interview we do, our last question is what should our first one be for the next. We interviewed Miser and they have asked you to:

In 50 words or less describe how bands like rage against the machine has changed music for the better of our world?
Most of the people at a RATM show are not there for the political message. I am sure that in some South and Central American countries, where Rage are heroes, the fans get the political message, but I think it is lost on a lot of Americans. But they have raised awareness and lessened people's blind faith in our government to some degree.
